Unnaturellart Entrance Mural at SOCHA Arts Gallery
Project type
Photo Documentary
Date
December 2024
Unnaturellart, the dynamic muralist duo of Ayda Rose and Thyla Arden, is leading an inspiring public art project at Socha Arts Gallery as part of the Olympia Art Space Alliance’s Downtown Olympia Mural Program. This initiative funds and fosters large-scale public art to enrich the city’s cultural landscape. Learn more here.
This large-scale mural completely transforms the gallery entrance, covering every wall and ceiling, immersing visitors in a bioluminescent forest scene that reflects Olympia's surrounding natural beauty. At the composition's heart are giant crows collecting shiny treasures, a powerful metaphor for the gallery itself. Just as the crows gather valuable objects, Socha Arts collects and showcases artwork from local artists.
To embody this theme, lead artist Ayda Rose invited some of her favorite Olympia-based artists—Bloom Bairseach, Tigerrific, Aaron Zonka, and Vincent Li—to integrate their unique designs into the piece. The result is more than just a mural; it’s a genuine collective effort that mirrors the artistic synergy of Socha Arts and the broader community.
My role is to document the mural’s evolution through photography, capturing the layers of paint, the hands that bring it to life, and the connections formed along the way. Through a photo series, I’ll share the unfolding journey, highlighting the intersection of artistic passion, community engagement, and the impact of public art.
This project is more than an aesthetic addition to Socha Arts; it’s a testament to collaboration, creativity, and the vibrant forces shaping Olympia’s art scene.
